After what has been an amazing week with so many memories being made by everyone, it was finally time to say goodbye to Poacher 2022, with performances from Dantae Johnson and Angels n Bandits, who have come back to perform again. Nathan Sykes finished off the night with a bang before the pyrotechnics display filled the sky to round out the night.
The tension was brimming when the subcamps, dressed in their costumes, marched into the Main Arena with the Sheriffs, Bandits and Cowboys of Wild West being the first to arrive, soon to be joined by Circus Fest with ringmasters, acrobats and animals filling their ranks. Wonder Fest saw the likes of Spider-Man, the Incredible Hulk and countless other superheroes, while Folk Fest saw the appearance of Morris Dancers and many more. Quest Fest’s crowd was filled with characters from Lord of the Rings, Harry Potter and even the occasional dinosaur.
With nearly 10,000 participants and adults seated, the closing ceremony began with Robbie White taking the stage one final time. Poacher’s Got Talent winner Maddie performed her rendition of ‘Proud Mary’, which the crowd loved. Sophia of 2nd Ashbourne Guides and Rangers – staying on Carnival Fest – said “Maddie was so good!”
Throughout this fantastic week, there have been so many highlights, such as the roar when the England team brought home the European Championship. With over 150 activities available, participant favourites included SubAqua, Water Zorbs and the Inflatables. The Creative Village has also been a big hit with numerous crafts such as Pyrography, Pencil Case Colouring and Bracelet Making.
With the lowering of the international flags, the World Organisation of the Scout Movement (WOSM), World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts (WAGGS), and the official Poacher flag complete, the party could begin. Dantae Johnson, Angels n Bandits and Nathan Sykes performed to an energetic crowd who soaked up the atmosphere. Emma from East Lothian Guides, who were staying on Circus Fest, said the performances were “really cool and loud and exciting!”
The acts even performed popular with the leaders. Amy, a 1st Frodingham Guide Leader staying on Quest Fest, said “They’ve been really good! Good energy and vibes” while Hannah, also from 1st Frodingham Guides, said “They had great audience interaction, which was really good for the young people. Good party action.”
Thank you all for coming, we can’t wait to see you all at Poacher 2026! (1st – 8th August)
