# Canadian Guide: My experience of Poacher

My first Poacher experience was in 2004 when our group from Alberta, Canada was hosted by a British Girl Scout unit. I didn’t have any idea what to expect and was so pleasantly surprised by the event that I took a different group of girls in 2008. I told those girls that it was a week long International event that they would never forget.

Poacher has been running for so many years the organisers know what works and I believe that one of their main goals is to give Guides and Scouts an adventure of a lifetime, and they never disappoint. There is never a reason to be bored as the selection and variety of activities and out trips, during the day and evening, offer something for everyone. With thousands of Guiding and Scouting people to meet from all over the world they would be guaranteed to make lots of new International friends.

I have since returned to Poacher, on my own, in 2013 and 2017 as a volunteer on different sub camps and I personally have made so many life long friends, that I still keep in contact with. I am looking forward to returning in 2022, once again to be on a sub camp team, where I will get the opportunity to catch up with old and meet new Guiding and Scouting friends.

Thanks Poacher for all my fabulous memories, which are a definite highlight in my Guiding story.
